List of 2025 SJTU Undergraduate Program in Chinese for International Students

 

Application Eligibility

1. High school diploma and above.

2. Non-Chinese citizens who hold a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations set by the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC " and etc.

February 15, 2025 ~ March 1, 2025 (Beijing Time, GMT+8)

 

Application Procedure

1. Applicants must log in to the Study@SJTU online application system (https://apply.sjtu.edu.cn) to fill in the application form, submit the electronic version of application materials, and pay the application fee within the application period. 

2. SJTU School of Medicine independently enrolls students. Applicants who apply for the School of Medicine should contact the International Student Education Center of the School of Medicine directly.


Application Materials

All application materials and information provided by applicants must be authentic, accurate and fully complete. Otherwise, the applicant will be disqualified for application, enrollment or study.


1. Senior high school diploma or equivalent (2025 graduating students should provide an official statement from your high school as proof of graduation);

2. School Profile (e.g. Overall Introduction, Admission Requirement, Enrollment Rate, Curriculum, Grading System, University Acceptance of Graduates and etc.);

3. Passport information page (valid for more than 6 months);

4. Personal statement with signature;

5. Two recommendation letters, at least one of which has to be provided by one of the academic teachers in the high school (with signature);

6. Academic certificate:

6.1 High school official transcripts, including all courses taken. 2025 graduating students should provide the high school official transcripts of all courses which have completed before the application;

6.2 Test scores of the national high school graduation exam or college entrance exam in the country or region, such as SAT (code:9184)/ ACT (code: 3038)/ IB (code: N010601)/ A-level /UEC, etc. If the above test score reports cannot be provided at application stage, an explanation document must be provided;

7. Language certificate:

7.1 Chinese language certificate. Provide at least one of the following materials: (a) HSK certificate. (HSK level 5 ≥ 200 scores, with Writing ≥ 60 scores or HSK level 6 ≥180 scores, with Writing ≥ 60 scores); (b) Proof of Chinese native speaker;

7.2 English language certificate. Provide at least one of the following materials: (a) TOEFL (code: D070) score report; (b) IELTS score report; (c) Others (e.g. Proof of English native speaker, English language study certificates and etc.);

8. Birth Certificate;

9. The nationality or household registration certificate of both the applicant's parents (Passport or ID card);

10. Applicants whose one or both parents are Chinese citizens should provide the following materials:

10.1 Certificate of the applicant obtained foreign nationality at birth or afterward.

10.2 For applicants who obtained foreign nationality at birth, ① if one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens and have a permanent residence abroad, a certificate of the corresponding permanent residence needs to be provided; ② if one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens but have not obtained permanent residence abroad, certificate of the renunciation of the Chinese nationality of the applicant needs to be provided.

10.3 For applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and obtained foreign nationalities afterward, a certificate for the cancellation of their original registered residence in China and the renunciation of the Chinese nationality should be provided.

10.4 The entry and exit seal page of visiting China on the applicant's passport from April 30, 2021 to the time of application.

11. Applicants under 18 years old (until September 1, 2025) should provide a letter of guarantee offered by the guardian in China;

12. Financial guarantee proven deposit of no less than RMB 100,000 (or equivalent in foreign currency);

13. Award certificates (if any);

14. Applicants applying for Visual Communication or Environmental Design will need to submit portfolios;

15. Other supportive materials required by SJTU.

Note:

① The items or certificates listed in 6.2, 7.1 and 7.2 must be obtained within two years.

② If any of the above application materials are not in Chinese or English, a notarized translation in Chinese or English shall be provided.  

③ There is no need to mail hard copies of supporting materials during application.


Entrance Exam

Applicants who pass the preliminary review should take the “SJTU International Undergraduate Entrance Exam”. The Entrance Exam includes two parts: Written Test and Interview.

5. Interview: Applicants who have passed the written tests will be invited to attend the interview. Details about the interview will be informed at Study@SJTU official website (https://isc.sjtu.edu.cn) or sent by email.


Admission

1. The admission decision will be made based on a comprehensive evaluation. Applicants can check their admission results in the application system.

2. Applicants need to pre-pay the tuition fees in the application system to confirm the enrollment within two weeks after admission results are released.

3. The "Admission Notice" will be issued gradually during July 2025.


Scholarship

Excellent applicants will have the opportunity to be awarded different kinds of scholarships, such as the Chinese Government Scholarship, Shanghai Government Scholarship, SJTU Scholarship, International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship and others.

1. Students applying for CSC Scholarship (Chinese Government Scholarship) should directly contact the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. For specific application periods and requirements, please refer to the information published by the local Chinese embassy or consulate. When completing the scholarship application form, the applicant should select Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the priority. 

The scholarship content is subject to the website of China Scholarship Council. As for accommodation, SJTU does not provide free dormitory, but provides accommodation subsidy (1,000 RMB/ Month).


2. Students applying for Shanghai Government Scholarship and SJTU Scholarship can click the option “Apply for scholarship” when completing SJTU’s online application form.

In early September, 2025 (specific time will be informed on the admission letter)


Fees

Application Fee: 800 RMB (non-refundable)

Tuition: 24, 800 RMB/Academic Year

Insurance: 800 RMB/Academic Year (The relevant regulations by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Management Regulations for International Student of SJTU require all international students with study duration over 6 months to purchase the Group Comprehensive Insurance in Mainland of China as a prerequisite for the registration procedures.)
