2026 SJTU Undergraduate Programs in Chinese 

For International Students



Shanghai Jiao Tong University, founded in 1896, is a top-tier and internationally renowned institution in China characterized by its "comprehensive, innovative, and International" approach. It ranks 30th in the 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), 40th in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, 46th in the U.S. News & World Report Global Universities ranking, and 47th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings. Currently, the university offers undergraduate programs spanning ten disciplines: engineering, science, medicine, economics, management, law, liberal arts, education, agriculture, and arts. The standard duration of study is four years, except for special programs. Upon completion of the required curriculum, passing the necessary assessments, and successfully defending their undergraduate thesis, students are awarded an undergraduate diploma. Those who meet the degree requirements are granted a bachelor's degree.

Application Eligibility

1. Graduation from high school or equivalent educational background. Prospective graduates must provide a pre-graduation certificate issued by their school and obtain their high school diploma before enrollment.

2. Non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport, in compliance with the relevant regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, including the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC" and etc.

3. Good physical and mental health, with no criminal record.

4. Excellent academic proficiency must be demonstrated, and the following documents shall be provided:

4.1 High school transcript (covering all courses completed during high school). Prospective graduates must submit a transcript of all high school courses completed up to the point of application.

4.2 Standardized international test scores or national/regional unified high school graduation or university entrance examination results, such as SAT (code: 9184), AP, ACT (code: 3038), A-Level, IB (code: N010601), UEC, etc. If the above results cannot be provided, a written explanation can be submitted.

4.3 Test score of the China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA). Specific subject requirements for the CSCA can be found in the List of 2026 SJTU Undergraduate Program in Chinese for International Students. Applicants who have not yet taken the CSCA may submit other application materials initially. Those who pass the university's selection process will receive a pre-admission notice and must supplement their CSCA scores by June 30, 2026. Upon passing the final selection, a formal admission notice will be issued.

4.4 Other supporting documents.

5. Excellent language proficiency must be demonstrated, and the following documents shall be provided:

5.1 Chinese language proficiency proof, with at least one of the following materials required:

(1) HSK results: HSK Level 5 with a score of 200 or above (with Writing ≥ 60 scores), or HSK Level 6 with a score of 180 or above (with Writing ≥ 60 scores).

(2) Other equivalent proof, such as documentation indicating Chinese as a native language.

(3) Application Form for One Year of Chinese Language Courses. This applies only to conditionally admitted applicants whose Chinese proficiency does not yet meet the requirements and who require one year of Chinese language training.

5.2 English language proficiency proof, with at least one of the following materials required:

(1) TOEFL scores (code: D070).

(2) IELTS scores.

(3) Other supporting materials, such as proof of English native speaker, English language study certificates and etc.

                   

Application Period

Early Round: 8:00, December 8, 2025 – 17:00, February 5, 2026 (Beijing Time)

Regular Round: 8:00, February 6, 2026 – 17:00, March 10, 2026 (Beijing Time)


Application and Admission Process

Step 1: Complete the online application by following the steps below:

1. Within the designated application period, register and log in to the "Study @SJTU" online application system (https://apply.sjtu.edu.cn). Select “New Application Form → Undergraduate → Chinese-Taught Programs”.

2. Fill out the application form completely and upload all required application materials as specified.

3. Pay the application fee online. Please note: The application fee is non-refundable once paid.

4. Submit the application form. Applications that are not successfully submitted will be considered invalid.


Step 2: Applicants in the Regular Round should take the “SJTU International Undergraduate Entrance Exam”.

1. Exam Format: Online examination.

2. Exam Time: March 21–22, 2026. Detailed schedule will be notified via email at a later date.

3. Exam Subjects: Applicants are required to take the corresponding exam subjects based on their chosen program category. Specific program categories can be found in the List of 2026 SJTU Undergraduate Program in Chinese for International Students.

Step 3: Attend the interview
Applicants who pass the university's preliminary selection will be eligible to participate in the interview. The interview aims to assess students' comprehensive qualities and language proficiency. Specific arrangements will be announced on the "Study@SJTU" official website (https://isc.sjtu.edu.cn) or via email notification.


Step 4: Check pre-admission results and confirm enrollment
SJTU will make pre-admission decisions based on comprehensive evaluation. Applicants may log in to the "Study@SJTU" application system to check their pre-admission status. Those who receive a pre-admission notice should pre-pay tuition in the application system to confirm the enrollment within two weeks after the pre-admission results are announced. Failure to complete the enrollment confirmation within the specified period will be regarded as a waiver of the admission qualification.


Step 5: Download the admission notice
Electronic versions of the formal admission notices will be available for download starting July 2026 via the email address provided during application. Physical copies of the admission notices will be provided during registration at the beginning of the semester.


Scholarship

Excellent applicants will have the opportunity to be awarded different kinds of scholarships, such as the Chinese Government Scholarship, Shanghai Government Scholarship, SJTU Scholarship, International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship and others.

1. Students applying for CSC Scholarship (Chinese Government Scholarship) should directly contact the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. For specific application periods and requirements, please refer to the information published by the local Chinese embassy or consulate. When completing the scholarship application form, the applicant should select Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the priority. 

The scholarship content is subject to the website of China Scholarship Council. As for accommodation, SJTU does not provide free dormitory, but provides accommodation subsidy (1,100 RMB/ Month).

2. Students applying for Shanghai Government Scholarship and SJTU Scholarship can click the option “Apply for scholarship” when completing SJTU’s online application form.

3. Students applying for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship can refer to the application Information for SJTU International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship.


Term begins

in early September 2026. The specific date will be indicated in the Admission Notice.


Fee Structure

1. Application Fee

RMB 800. The application fee is non-refundable once paid.

2. Tuition Fee

RMB 24,800 per academic year.

Note: The tuition fee for the Global Institute of Future Technology is pending and will be subject to subsequent announcements.

3. Insurance Fee

RMB 800 per academic year. The relevant regulations by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Management Regulations for International Student of SJTU require all international students with study duration over 6 months to purchase the Group Comprehensive Insurance in Mainland of China as a prerequisite for the registration procedures.

4. Accommodation Fee

Ranges from RMB 6,600 to RMB 12,600 per semester. The specific cost depends on the type of dormitory and campus arrangement. Students may choose to live in on-campus dormitories or rent off-campus housing privately. Those requiring on-campus accommodation must reserve a dormitory within the specified period.
