Online Application System

1. How many applications can I submit in the online application system?

One applicant can only submit one application with at most two preferences in the same language (either Chinese or English).

 

2. I can’t find my program in the online application system.

3. I am applying for School of Medicine but I can’t find the program in the online application system.

Please visit the website http://iso.shsmu.edu.cn/ or contact School of Medicine directly via liuxue@shsmu.edu.cn

 

4. I have problem uploading documents.

Please try with other browsers such as Google Chrome.

If you can't upload, please click the “Send Mail” button, and then we will help you with it.

 

5. I can’t save the application.

Please try again using IE or Chrome browser. Or, send email to sjtu-isc@sjtu.edu.cn to get help

 

6. Online payment is not working.

Please choose bank transfer instead, and upload the remittance notice

 

Admission

1.  What is the admission process?

Your online application will get reviewed first by the international affairs office (preliminary review) and then by the department that you are applying to (department review). During the department review, the department might arrange a video/phone interview or other test for you, then decide whether or not you can be admitted.

2. How long it takes for the admission process?

It varies for different programs. Please contact with the department directly for more information.

 

3. Is there an exam or interview during the admission process?

For Graduate degree applicants:

During the department review, the department might arrange a video/phone interview or other test for you, then decide whether or not you can be admitted.

4. Why is my application returned?

Please login your account on our website and check the returning reasons, and you can re-submit the application after proper modification.

 

5. What if I find that I have written incorrect information in my application?

If your application is under the preliminary review, please contact with us via email to gs.admission@sjtu.edu.cn. We will help return your application for your revision.

If your application is under the department review, it can no longer be modified. Under this case, please contact with the department directly.

 

6. How can I get the pre-admission letter?

Please apply at the online application system to our office. After you pass the preliminary review and department review, you will be able to download the pre-admission letter from the online application system.

 

7. I got the pre-admission letter. Do I need to confirm the enrollment now?

No, we will email you when you are required to confirm your admission status.

 

8. I got the pre-admission letter and confirmed the enrollment. What should I do next?

Please wait till the formal admission letter and other documents to be mailed out after June.

  

9.  I got the pre-admission letter, but I want to change major.

Sorry but you cannot change your major after being admitted. If you insist, we can help to cancel your previous admission and then you can apply again. Please note that there is possibility for your new application to be declined by the corresponding program, while the cancelled admission cannot be resumed.

 

10. I got the pre-admission letter. Does it mean that I also got the scholarship?

No. Please note that the pre-admission notice only confirms that you have been admitted by SJTU, but cannot be interpreted as a guarantee or implication that you can get a scholarship.

 

11. How do I track the status of my application?

Students can log in SJTU’s online application system to track their admissions process. The online system also sends emails to applicants regarding their application status.

 

12. As an international student, can I apply for scholarships? 

The Shanghai Government and Shanghai Jiao Tong University will offer scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students. Students will automatically get different levels of scholarship depending on their entrance test result. SJTU reserves the right of final explanation. Besides, applicants may apply the Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) offered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). For more information about the CGS issues, please consult the Chinese Embassy (or Consulate General) in your home country directly.


13. I am afraid that I may not have a chance to visit SJTU before admissions. Is there a way in which I can get a sense of the campus?

14. Does SJTU accept international transfer students? 

Except students who major in Chinese Language can transfer to SJTU in their sophomore year, SJTU does not accept any other types of international transfer students from other undergraduate programs. Currently we do not accept transferring students for our international graduate programs either.

 

15. I do not have a high Chinese proficiency. Can I apply for undergraduate programs which are instructed in languages other than Chinese?

Our University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiao Tong University (UM - SJTU) Joint Institute has English-instructed programs (website: http://umji.sjtu.edu.cn/, E-mail: ji-intadm@sjtu.edu.cn), and SJTU-ParisTech Elite Institute of Technology has French-instructed programs (website: http://speit.sjtu.edu.cn/indexfn.html, E-mail: speit@sjtu.edu.cn). Please contact them directly. Except for the programs mentioned above, most of our SJTU’s undergraduate programs are instructed in Chinese Mandarin at present.


16.  If I am not able to attend the entrance test, can I participate in the interview directly? (for undergraduate student)

Applicants who meet certain requirements in SAT, IB, GCE A-level may apply for exemption from SJTU’s entrance tests. For further information, please check our recent admission brochure.

 

17. Is SJTU on a semester or quarter system? Do undergraduate programs allow students to start in the spring semester?

SJTU runs on a semester system. However, students can select courses on the school’s summer session. We do NOT accept applications for January/spring enrollment from First-Year candidates.

 

Formal Admission Letter

1. When can I get my formal admission notice and other documents?

The formal admission letter and other documents (scholarship certificate, visa, accommodation, etc.) will be mailed out after June. For more questions, please contact isc.d@sjtu.edu.cn or call +86-21-62932276, 62821023, 62822031

 

2. There is a mistake on my formal admission notice, and I need to change it.

3. My scholarship certificate does not have the information for stipend.
