ACEM held Welcome Ceremony for New MIB Students
On September 16, 2016, Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) held a special welcome ceremony for 75 newly enrolled Master of International Business (MIB) students from 36 different countries all over the world. Professor Zhou Lin, Dean of ACEM, Professor Yu Mingyang, Party Committee Secretary of ACEM participated in this ceremony to greet these new students. MIB Program Director LU Lin chaired this ceremony.
Professor Zhou Lin, Dean of ACEM, delivered a welcome speech congratulating all the new students on being accepted to Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He emphasized that as a leading research university in China, SJTU is proud of fostering innovation and promoting knowledge on emerging market during the era of globalization. He further addressed the importance of globalization and China's role in promoting a more interconnected global economy. Shanghai is a major economic hub and the financial capital in China, which is the world's second largest economy. ACEM is committed to make itself a bridge between China and other countries and a college to develop global talents.
Program Director Lu Lin gave a brief introduction to the MIB program. According to her, the mission of MIB is to develop talents create a community of diverse culture and equip international students with a comprehensive understanding of global business, a deep insight into China’s dynamic business environment, and knowledge about China’s history, culture, law, and policy, as well as advanced knowledge and practical sense of doing business in China. ACEM MIB program started in 2013 with only 10 students. Within four years it has developed into an international education program characterized by curriculum addressing both international environment and doing business in China, advanced workshops from both academic and industrial fields, specially designed study tour, intern and exchange, and research-oriented thesis.
At the ceremony Party Committee Secretary Yu Mingyang joined Dean Zhou Lin to award the winning teams in the MIB orientation activity which highlights the importance of teamwork and cross-cultural communication. Then, Ms. Zhang Yi and colleagues from the International Office of ACEM shared information for international students. The ceremony ended with interaction and communication between MIB students enrolled last year and the new students. This welcome ceremony signals a formal setoff of the 75 international students’ study in SJTU.
