Regular Admission for International Students


Program List

Refer to the “List of 2022 SJTU Undergraduate Programs in Chinese for International Students”.


Application Eligibility

1. High school diploma and above.

2. Non-Chinese citizens who hold a foreign passport and comply with the relevant regulations set by the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC " and etc.

3. Physically and mentally healthy.

February 17, 2022~March 15, 2022(Beijing Time, GMT+8)


Application Procedure

1. Applicants must log in to the Study@SJTU online application system to fill in the application form, submit the electronic version of application materials, and pay the application fee within the application period. 

2. SJTU School of Medicine independently enrolls students. Applicants who apply for the School of Medicine should contact the International Student Education Center of the School of Medicine directly.


Application Materials

1. Senior high school diploma or equivalent (2022 graduating students should provide an official statement from your high school as proof of graduation);

2. School Profile (e.g. Overall Introduction, Admission Requirement, Enrollment Rate, Curriculum, Grading System, University Acceptance of Graduates and etc.)

3. Passport information page (valid for more than 6 months).

4. Personal statement with signature;

5. Two recommendation letters, at least one of which has to be provided by one of the teachers in the high school (with signature);

6. Academic certificate (including but not limited to):

6.1 High school official transcripts, including all courses taken.

6.2 Test scores of the national high school graduation exam or college entrance exam in the country or region, such as SAT(code:9184)/ACT(code:3038)/IB/A-level/UEC, etc. If the above test results cannot be obtained at the time of application, an explanation must be provided.

7. Language certificate

7.1 Chinese language certificate. Provide at least one of the following materials: 

(a) HSK certificate. (HSK level 5 ≥ 200 scores, with Writing ≥ 60 scores or HSK level 6 ≥180 scores, with Writing ≥ 60 scores ); 

(b) Proof of Chinese native speaker (should be approved by SJTU).

7.2 English language certificate. Provide at least one of the following materials: 

(a) TOEFL score(code:D070) ; 

(b) IELTS score; 

(c) Other equivalent English language proficiency certificates.

8. Birth Certificate;

9. Applicants whose one or both parents are Chinese citizens should provide the following materials:

9.1 Certificate of the applicant obtained foreign nationality at birth or afterward.

9.2 The nationality or household registration certificate of both the applicant's parents (passport or ID card).

9.3 For applicants who obtained foreign nationality at birth, if one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens with permanent residence abroad, certificate of the corresponding permanent residence needs to be provided; if one or both of the parents are Chinese citizens without permanent residence abroad, certificate of the withdrawal from Chinese nationality of the applicant needs to be provided.

9.4 For applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and obtained foreign nationalities afterward, a certificate for the cancellation of their original registered residence in China and the renunciation of the Chinese nationality should be provided.

9.5 The entry and exit seal page of visiting China on the applicant's passport from April 30, 2018 to the time of application.

10. Applicants under 18 years old (until September 1, 2022) should provide a letter of guarantee for their guardian in China (should be notarized by relevant authorities).

11. Financial guarantee proven deposit of not less than RMB 100,000 (or equivalent in foreign currency).

12. Award certificates (if any);

13. Applicants applying for designing will need to submit portfolios.

14. Other supportive materials required by SJTU.


①The scores or certificates listed in 6.2, 7.1, and 7.2 must be obtained within one year.

② If any of the above application materials are not in Chinese or English, a notarized translation in Chinese or English shall be provided.  

③There is no need to mail hard copies of supporting materials during application.


Entrance Exam

Applicants who pass the preliminary review should take the “SJTU International Undergraduate Entrance Exam”. The Entrance Exam includes two parts: Written Test and Oral Test.

1. Exam Method: Both Written and Oral tests are online.  Applicants will be required to login to the application system within a specified time period for the exam.  

2. Exam Time: Scheduled for March 19-20, 2022 (subject to change by further notice. Please check out the official website https://isc.sjtu.edu.cn).

Note: Applicants who pass the preliminary review should pay attention to the follow-up instructions for the Entrance Exam.



1. The admission decision will be based on a comprehensive evaluation. Applicants can check their admission results in the application system.

2. Students need to pre-pay the tuition fees in the application system  to confirm the enrollment within two weeks after admission results are released.

3. The "Admission Notice" will be issued gradually at the end of June.

4. SJTU will review the applicant's application materials again after admission and reserve the right to cancel students’ admission if there are any irregularities.



Excellent applicants will have the opportunity to be awarded different kinds of scholarships, such as the Chinese Government Scholarship, Shanghai Government Scholarship, SJTU Scholarship, International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (Confucius Institute Scholarship), and others.

1. Students applying for CSC ScholarshipChinese Government Scholarshipshould directly contact the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. For specific application times and requirements, please refer to the information published by the local Chinese embassy or consulate. When completing the scholarship application form, the applicant should select Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the priority. The scholarship content is subject to the website of China Scholarship Council. As for accommodation, SJTU does not provide free dormitory, but provides accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month).

2. Students applying for Shanghai Government Scholarship and SJTU Scholarship can click the option “Apply for scholarship” when completing SJTU’s online application form. The contents of the scholarship are as follows:




 First-Class Scholarship

PeriodAccording to length of schooling.

Covers tuition, insurance,  accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month), living allowance (2,500 CNY per month),

Ø Scholarship decision will be based on the comprehensive evaluation of the applicants

Ø Applicants should not be awardees of other scholarships at the same time

Ø Scholarship results will be announced together with the admission results

Ø SJTU reserves the right of final explanation.


Second-Class Scholarship

PeriodAccording to length of schooling.

Covers tuition, insurance, accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month),

Third-Class Scholarship

PeriodAccording to length of schooling.

Covers insurance and accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month)

3. Students applying for the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship (Confucius Institute Scholarship) can apply following the “Application Information for 2022 SJTU International Chinese Language TeachersConfucius InstituteScholarship”.


Term begins

In early September, 2022 (specific time will be informed on the admission letter)



Application Fee: CNY 800 (nonrefundable)

Tuition: CNY24, 800/Year

Insurance: CNY 800/Year (The relevant regulations by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Management Regulations for International Student of SJTU require all international students with study duration over 6 months to purchase the Group Comprehensive Insurance in Mainland of China as a prerequisite for the registration procedures.)
