Kick off!Kungfu Class for International Students——2016 International Student Activities
On September 30, 2016, 25 international students participated in a Chinese Kungfu Class organized by ACEM International Office, making the first step to their long-coveted kungfu dream.
After traditional kungfu-style greetings and warm-up, the two masters, an international martial arts champion and a national martial arts silver medalist kicked off the first lesson by teaching students the classic five-step routine. Students were guided to practice step by step, from horse stand, stretching to bow standing, leaning and hit. Passionate as they were, all participants picked up the routine quite quickly. In light of their outstanding performance, the masters decided to level up the game and teach them the Shaolin Quan routine, where more kicking and stretching were required. Students became even more high-spirited facing the difficulties. Two senior students from the last Kungfu Class in the spring semester volunteered to be the teaching assistants, helping the rookies with the moves and strength.
On this beautiful early-autumn afternoon, the Kungfu-practising international students became an attractive sight on campus. The class also drew some locals to come along and join the practice. At the end of the class, students were reluctant to leave and continued practicing the routines they have just learnt. Even the two masters were surprised by their energy and enthusiasm.
Organized by the International Office of ACEM, the Kungfu Class is held every other Friday afternoon from September to October. It is a part of the China Class series for international students to learn a wide spectrum of Chinese culture.
