Today, hundreds of international students gathered together at the lecture hall of Chen Ruiqiu Building in Minhang Campus to learn their first lesson in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Leaders of the international student management department both from inside and outside SJTU, were invited to give lectures on the issues that are most concerned about by international students in the study and life of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The department leaders responsible for student training were also invited to participate in the session.
Vice-president Xue Min of Shanghai Jiao Tong University addressed the session in the beginning. He warmly welcomed all of the international students to study in this renowned school with over one-hundred-year history, and encouraged everyone to press ahead and work hard in the future. He also expressed sincere wishes that everyone would make progressive achievements and enhance cultural exchanges with their Chinese friends here.
School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering boasts a large number of international students. Associate professor Huang Xiaolin put forward valuable suggestions for international freshmen in terms of their future study. He stressed the importance of interdisciplinary exchanges, a typical case of which was given,too. He mentioned that AI derived from the multiple exchanges between researchers from different fields, with mathematics, computer science, electronics, neuroscience, psychology and linguistics included.
Zhong Honesheng, Indonesian graduate representative from University of Michigan - Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute gave an inspiring speech. He talked about his life in SJTU and gave some useful living tips for the new comers. Zhong won a round of applause by suggesting the freshmen to make full use of shared bikes, mobile phones and a variety of applications.

SJTU offered our international students with perfect academic environment as well as a series of transcultural exchange activities. Director Zhang Wei from International Students Service Center made a thorough speech on how to live a colorful campus life.
Shanghai Entry-Exit Administration officer Yu Biwen was invited to give a lecture on relevant laws and rules.
SJTU has always attached great importance to the safety of international students. Ouyang Shiquan, deputy director of the security department, emphasized the driving safety, personal safety and financial safety in the school through vivid and detailed cases and picture materials, and published the contact information in case of emergency.
At the end of the session, Nanyang dance club together with a flute club and a drum club from SJTU presented excellent cultural performances for international freshmen from all over the world. With the living beat, over 1100 international students would set sail for a new semester here in SJTU.
